How to Use Keywords to Get Clicks, Saves & Sales (+ Free Keyword Sheet!)

Let’s be real — beautiful pins don’t mean much if no one ever sees them.

If you’re putting in the work and still getting little traffic from Pinterest, the missing link is likely this: keywords. I learned this the hard way until I finally started using Pinterest like the search engine it is — and now my pins actually work.

Today I’m breaking it down for you, step by step — and giving you a free keyword cheat sheet to help you take action fast.

What Pinterest Keywords Actually Do?

Pinterest is visual, yes — but it’s also search-driven. When people type “content calendar” or “blogging tips,” Pinterest is scanning your pins, boards, and profiles for matching keywords.

No keywords = no discovery.

Right keywords = visibility without paid ads.

Why So Many Creators Miss This:

Most people treat Pinterest like Instagram: they post, wait, and hope. But Pinterest doesn’t reward pretty — it rewards clarity.

When your pin says exactly what your dream audience is looking for, Pinterest pushes it forward — again and again.

3 Ways to Use Pinterest Keywords Strategically

Use them in your Pin Title! I Often use the same Title as on my Pins.

Write what your audience is actually searching for.
Instead of “My Daily Routine,” try “Productivity Routine for Bloggers” or “Morning Routine for Content Creators.”

Also in your Pin description. Make the first 5 words count.

Describe what they’ll gain: “This Pinterest marketing strategy helped me double my blog traffic in 30 days.”

Include them in Board Titles & Descriptions

Boards show up in search too. “Content Strategy Tips” > “My Biz Board.” Always write for search, not for style.

You Don’t Need to Post More — You Just Need to Post Smarter

You don’t have to guess anymore. With the right keywords and strategy, Pinterest will start working for you — not just with you.

So far… so great 😀

Once you’ve downloaded your free keyword sheet and started optimizing your pins, you might be wondering how to take it further — how to know which keywords are really working and what your audience is actively searching for right now.

That’s where a tool like PinClicks

comes in.

PinClicks helps you:

  • Discover what keywords are ranking across Pinterest in real-time

  • See how your pins (and others) are performing
